I think we tend to expect the word “but” to follow because traditionally it does. It’s used as a justification for something the person is at odds with.

“He’s a good guy, but I hate that he watches porn all day, but he’s a good guy.”

“I don’t really find him attractive, but he’s a good guy and that’s what matters.”

I think I need to work on my own descriptions beyond the lackluster as well.

yes, I hate it when my woman makes me into one of her Girlfriends or a “good guy” as you call it. Rather be
a) lover
b) the man she’d cheat on me for
c) Mr. Badass
d) bastard sometimes
e) good guy who ties her up and spanks her when she is NOT good
