Ugh, typos from the tiny keyboard I'm using...sorry, I guess ACE just has that effect on me. (I'd pick Chris Blakeley's Just Your Ordinary Demisexual zine is an antidote...)

I was so enthused about ACE, and I'm sure the more sex-averse members of the asexual population will find it empowering. Chen's depiction of demisexua!ity felt like an afterthought at best (and much worse in practice). As someone struggling with demisexuality for several years (and more so during the pandemic) I wanted to scream when Chen said that many allosexuals behave in a way that could be called demisexual. When we're such a small population of the ace spectrum, and people like Dan Savage say we don't exist, the last thing we need is for the implication that our behavior is a choice because a bonafide asexual Ph.D says so. (Chen spends so much of the book detailing her own sexual behavior and why she's ace no matter what--which I don't doubt!--yet effectively erases us with little consideration.) I found it very hurtful, and suspect that other people who used to think they were allo my react the same way.
